This blog is not exactly about the organiser of the outing, the people on the outing, it is snippets of the area visited and what I chose to do with the photography of the day.

Thinking back I must have been a teen the last time I had been to Tahlee and the surrounding townships on the northern side of Port Stephens. This time it was with an organised photo group.
It was a very sunny winter's day, mostly clear sky and the bush fires over at Nelson Bay and Grahamstown Dam were raging. This trip for me was to get some practice in, catch up with a fellow photographer and see how others use their equipment.
Tahlee is a heritage-listed former pastoral property of 68.8 hectares. It is the original site of the Australian Agricultural Company and more recently the location of the former Tahlee Bible College. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. You can book accommodation and if you like book in to have a guided tour.
This area is oozing in history with it own convict build boat harbor, I can imagine the ships packed with cargo and people would come to load and unload. A canon guards the Main House and the hall has a huge ball room filled with old wares. Some of the accommodation buildings have been relocated to the site from the Greta and Singleton migrate camps.
I'd love to have a little longer there next time to really enjoy the character and indulge in the historic-ness of this beautiful place and it's buildings.
Next stop Carrington to a beautiful old stone church and oyster barns. The sign post was interesting with a willy wag tail giving me a bit of cheek.
Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest for a beer at the Tea Gardens Pub and a sunset at the Hawks Nest Boat Ramp.
On the water front I had a play with some filters to see how they changed your picture. Not quite understanding it totally, however, happy to give it ago. I did find the subject area I used to photograph for the long exposure with a 10 stop filter a little boring. Hopefully when I do this in practice somewhere else it will have some more interest about it....
Hawk Nest boat ramp, the fires raging at Nelson Bay and at Grahamstown Dam filled the sky to the south and west with smoke. As the sun went down the glow of orange of the fires and smoke intensified. After the sunset pics we headed over to Windy Whopper to drop off one the crew. A photo opportunity to capture the intensity and extent of the fire at Nelson Bay.
Without a tripod I used my phone to stabilise the camera on a large rock for a few pics.
I have attached a Photo Album of the pictures taken on the day.
Being a bright sunny winters day, I chose to do a bit of extra post processing with some of the pictures. I hope you do like them and make sure to click on the picture and expand it to the full screen, as you may miss something in the picture. You can like the picture too.
Happy Viewing
